How To Fix Nuwave Dome
NuWave makes a countertop oven that promises to speed cooking and prepare juicy and healthy food, but it could prove to be an expensive item if owners are forced to pay for replacement domes over and over again.
It seems that the plastic domes on the Oven Pro and Oven Pro Plus crack in a short period of time with regular usage. It's not hard to find complaints on consumer websites about defective covers which crack with less than three years of usage.
One says that the dome "cracks after several uses" and adds, "Got one for my daughter and she is having the same issues with hers."
"I just received the second replacement dome because the first 2 domes developed large cracks, just from normal use," says another. The seller promised that this replacement dome would be heavier, but "it isnt heavier it is exactly the same as the last 2 domes, made of plastic!!"
Yet another says he has had four replacement domes: "They all last about a year" and adds that "its not rocket science regarding plastic dome cracking."
Yet NuWave does not seem to recognize its own responsibilities with the problem. Its response to one such consumer complaint is to say, "I am sorry to hear your dome cracked. You may purchase a replacement dome for only $15.00 plus s&h cost by visiting www.nuwaveoven.net… Thank you and have a great day!" Others have been charged $25 plus shipping and handling, which is no bargain if the new dome cracks as well.
Even when owners have managed to get a "free" replacement dome sent to them, they are often charged for shipping and handling.
Has NuWave considered making a better dome? One article on Infrared Oven Reviews says it has: "[T]he company has now introduced a supposedly better variant of the NuWave oven parts, which is called the Power Dome. While the ordinary dome cost around $25, the Power Dome comes for double the amount ($49.95). One can hope that the costly Power Dome lives up to its promise, especially since the ordinary dome is already out of stock on the main site…"
Yet some owners believe that the company is deliberately claiming the old dome is out of stock so that they will have to upgrade to the more expensive new dome.
If this is a product defect, one the company has known about for a long time, shouldn't it be either improving the product or replacing the defective part for free?
We're investigating.
